I am excited and deeply honored to share that I was recently featured in the Boston Teachers Union Newspaper in an article highlighting my children's book, Happy Music: A New Orleans Jazz Story, and the rich history of my grandfather’s music venue.
The article explored the inspiration behind Happy Music and how my family’s musical roots helped shape the story. My grandfather’s music venue was more than just a place for performances — it was a vibrant community gathering space where jazz music, culture, and storytelling came alive. Those experiences, passed down through family stories and memories, inspired me to create a book that introduces young readers to the joy, rhythm, and cultural significance of jazz music.
Being featured in the Boston Teachers Union Newspaper was especially meaningful because of my background as a retired educator. Sharing this story with fellow educators reinforces the importance of connecting history, culture, and literacy in meaningful ways for young learners. Music and storytelling are powerful tools that help children explore new ideas, understand cultural traditions, and develop a lifelong love for reading.
I am grateful for the opportunity to share both my book and my family's musical legacy with the educational community. My hope is that Happy Music: A New Orleans Jazz Story continues to inspire children, educators, and families to celebrate music, history, and the joy of learning together.
Thank you to the Boston Teachers Union Newspaper for highlighting my special story and helping to share the legacy of jazz, family, and education with a wider audience.
